일상의 10분이 문화가 되는 순간
〈텐 미닛〉은 “생활문화 공간(거점)은 무엇을 할 수 있는가?”라는 근본적인 질문에서 출발한 일상 참여형 프로젝트이다. 본 프로그램은 모두에게 동일하게 주어지지만 규정되지 않은 상태로 남아 있는 일상의 빈틈-하교와 퇴근길의 짧은 여유, 주말 산책, 맛집 대기 중의 순간 등-에 주목한다. 별도의 신청 절차 없이 공간 방문 즉시 참여할 수 있으며, 참여자가 남긴 글, 드로잉, 신체 동작, 뜨개, 음성 기록, 작은 사물 등 형식이 정해지지 않은 ‘10분의 흔적’은 샐리(S.A.L.L.Y)에 남겨져 프로젝트 종료시점까지 ‘보관’된다. 이는 “일상의 시간은 어떻게 문화적 사건으로 전환되는가?”라는 질문을 탐구하는 실험이자, 개인의 사적 시간이 공유 가능한 의미로 확장되는, 즉 생활문화 거점이 ‘개인의 시간’과 ‘모두의 시간’을 매개하는 장(場)으로 기능하는 과정을 확인하는 시도이다. 이를 통해 비록 짧은 10분이지만, 문화는 언제나 ‘작은 단위의 단단한 연결’에서 시작된다는 사실을 다시 환기한다. 수개월간 축적된 〈텐 미닛〉의 기록은 하나의 패턴 데이터로 재해석되어 원단으로 제작되며, 전시 기간 동안 협력 단체 ‘바느질 놀이터’와 함께 다양한 공예품으로 재탄생한다. 개인의 일상이 공동의 문화로 순환되는 프로젝트의 전 과정은, 일상에 더해진 작은 변주가 새로운 문화적 가능성으로 확장될 수 있음을 보여주는 동시에, 일상-공간-기록-공유로 이어지는 문화 형성의 연쇄적 작동방식을 제안한다.
10 Minutes When Ten Minutes of Everyday Life Becomes Culture 10 Minutes begins with a fundamental question: “What can a community cultural hub do?” The project focuses on the unstructured pockets of time that belong to everyone within a 24-hour day-brief pauses after school or work, a moment during a weekend walk, or a short visit while waiting in line at a café. These small, accidental intervals-one’s own ten minutes-are “stored” at S.A.L.L.Y, with anyone able to participate at any time without prior registration. The traces left by participants-whether writing, drawing, gestures, knitting, voice recordings, or small found objects-accumulate into a shared temporal archive. This process becomes an experimental inquiry into the question, “How does everyday time become a cultural event?” At the same time, it expands the role of S.A.L.L.Y as a community cultural hub, transforming private moments into collective time and personal traces into shared meaning. Even though it is only ten minutes, the project quietly but clearly demonstrates that culture often begins with small, durable units of connection. Over several months, the collected records of 10 Minutes are transformed into pattern data and produced as textile material. During the exhibition period, these textiles are re-created into various handcrafted works in collaboration with the local craft group #jasuhope_ and are shared with participants. Through this cyclical process—where individual daily life becomes communal culture '10 Minutes' shows how a small variation added to everyday time can open new cultural possibilities, proposing a relational and iterative model of cultural formation that moves through everyday life, space, documentation, and shared experience.
